Paraskevi

From Caduceus Database

Paraskevi is the sixth strain of GUILT encountered in Under the Knife and Second Opinion. Its codename is "Arrow to the Heart". It is a fibrous, worm-like pathogen that is found first in the small intestine. It then attempts to move from organ to organ until it can burrow into the heart and instantly kill the victim.

[edit] Pre-GUILT

Paraskevi after being stunned with the laser.

There will usually only be a few minor lacerations to mend before the true battle begins. Suture them and Paraskevi will show itself.

[edit] Paraskevi

This is one of the more straightforward operations in that there are not multiple types or stages, as with Kyriaki or Deftera. Paraskevi is not vulnerable to any attack until stunned by a hit to the tail section with the laser. Slice it with the scalpel down the middle to half its length, splitting it into two bodies. This must be done until it only has a single section. Each dissection with the scalpel will cause two lacerations, so strategic dissection and removal of the Paraskevi is required. Once the Paraskevi is down to a single section, it may be extracted with the forceps while stunned. There are a total of 16 sections that must be removed in standard Paraskevi operations, except when operating on Derek's heart, that Paraskevi bodies will be in two of their smallest sizes.

[edit] General Tips

Single section of Paraskevi, stunned.

Keep a very close eye out for the telltale sign of Paraskevi attempting to burrow and move to the next organ, rapid shaking of the tail. This does not produce a sound, so you'll have to depend on awareness of all active bodies at any given time.

It is always best to only work with the smallest Paraskevi body. Dissecting multiple same-length sections simultaneously is extremely dangerous, as it causes massive drops in the patient's vitals and creates a swarm of Paraskevi that can prove exceedingly difficult to handle properly, and can cause wounds from the laser from prolonged exposure.

Dr. Kimimisha's Healing Touch is an asset to this operation, and can sometimes be the bridge between life and death for the patient.
