Deftera

From Caduceus Database

Two pairs of Deftera found in the lungs.

Deftera is the second strain of GUILT encountered in Under the Knife and Second Opinion. Its nickname is "Creeping Tumors". Deftera also makes a short appearance along with Kyriaki in a simulation challenge later in New Blood. It is a tumor that replicates its DNA on a rapid scale, making it appear to move. Deftera always attacks in pairs, one red and one blue. When two opposite colors come in contact, they fruitlessly attempt to consume each other. When two of the same color collide, they will drop the patient's vitals and create smaller tumors. Deftera attacks tend to occur in two organs at once.

[edit] Treatment

Four tumors found during a Deftera operation. Smaller tumors spawned by the large are shown.

[edit] Pre-GUILT

At the beginning of Deftera operations, regular tumors will need to be burned off with the laser quickly. If these are left too long unattended, they will spawn more smaller tumors indefinitely, but the small tumors cannot create new tumors. Incinerating the last tumor will cause the first pair of Deftera to emerge. Be sure to inject stabilizer before finishing this part.

[edit] Single Pair

Single pairs are relatively easy to deal with, as there is no danger of like colors colliding. Single pairs only appear in the first operation Deftra appears in. Keep the priority on tumor incineration and keeping vitals up. Drain the Deftera when they collide and form a large tumor. After the third drain, the Deftera will begin rapidly spawning tumors and dropping vitals. It must be excised with haste, then the hole left behind must be covered by a membrane. Deal with any remaining smaller tumors to continue to another operation site.

[edit] Double Pair

Fighting a double pair of Deftera bodies is more a game of chance than a game of skill. With two pairs of Deftera, chances are that two Deftera bodies of the same color collide. This process will drop the patient's vitals by 15 and create tumors. If Deftera bodies of the same color keep colliding the laser may run out temporarily leaving the tumors to drain more of the patient's vitals. The only possible way to solve this problem is to stabilize the patient's vitals as the laser is recovering. The amount of tumors and the colliding of Deftera bodies might make adequate recovery of the patient's vitals impossible, though, and by pure chance a retry could be necessary.

Note that Deftera bodies that have endured different degrees of damage will not collide together. Take advantage of this to ensure that you do not get two bodies of the same color colliding. Do note that this still won't prevent a stray Deftera body from touching a combined pair and splitting them apart.

[edit] Mutations

The only known mutation of Deftera can be seen in Second Opinion. During this time, the Deftera causes hemorrhaging in addition to the tumors it creates. Any attempts to use the laser on tumors or excise Deftera under the pools of blood will not work, so extra care must be taken to quickly drain off the blood before it becomes a problem. This mutation occurs in chapter 6 and the X-missions.

[edit] General Tips

Antibiotic gel can be used to some effect to attempt to "herd" the Deftera toward or away from each other, yet be careful, this will drop the patient's vitals by a small amount each time they "hit" the gel, however the patient's vitals will not drop when the Deftera "hits" the gel in Trauma Center: Under the Knife.

[edit] Trivia

Tyler Chase's sister, Amy Chase is the first one to be infected with Deftera.
